The yatra takes place every year on the second day of the bright fortnight in the month of Ashadha. On this occasion, the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra are pulled through the streets of Puri. The idols are then returned to the Jagannath Temple on the ninth day.
